That's a very bad casualty count. In Jersey where I live, there have recently been two pedestrian deaths caused by a drunk driver, and there WAS a lot of outrage, and the man got jailed for over 10 years I think. My story - while cycling a couple of years ago, I had a terrifying encounter with a peleton of cyclists overtaking me on both sides, yelling and ringing bells - this has put me off cycling ever since. When I complained to the local cycling organisation, they identified the probably perpetrators, and I received a threatening email, and an invitation to view their head cam footage of the incident. When I accepted the invitation, I heard nothing more from them. The other day, while driving, a similar peleton was cycling about 2 metres from my rear end. If I had had to brake, they would have blamed me for the result, I'm sure. In front of me was a lone female cyclist, so I did not overtake her, thinking to prevent her from being surrounded by these aggressive riders. After about 5 minutes, going at about 20 mph, they decided to overtake me on a no-overtaking stretch of the road, and deliberately - it seemed to me - swerved in towards the other cyclist before shooting off. So I'm afraid I quite hate large groups of cyclists - they are a menace to other cyclists - and cyclists cycling on pavements, which they often do with impunity.
