A friend raves about this place, so, here I am, having a look. As a young teen I was into life sciences and I still love the bush, but, by the time I was 14, rock'n'roll had swayed me to electronics (in order to design and build my own amplifier), and electronics to computers. I'm not actually very good at any of these fields but I love tinkering and I'm worse at woodwork and metalwork. I'm retired, but worked 27 years as an audio producer for a national radio network after a few years as a management bullied technician with a telephony network. I've been in 3 locally successful local bands, The Neverdead (Launceston, 1981), The Breed (Hobart, 1989 - 2009) and The Collectables (MkII, Melbourne, 2011), plus a few pretty average cover bands that I never really felt at home in. A man is not a jukebox. I currently blog at blogger (shinyhappyrainbows.com) and may crosspost the occasional article from there here... <- I like wordplay. I left the Meta hellhole in 2022, despite leaving behind many wonderful friends overseas, but I'd kind of like a pasteboard aside from my main blog to just share a bit of "news and weather" within a community. (Yes, I tried Masto, but barely weeks after I signed up at aus.social, meta launched Threads, an app designed to hoover data off the activitypub protocol without any consent from that data's owners, and figured the official Threads instance server was a sleight of hand, while they probably had some anonymous instance elsewhere, so I dropped Mastodon.)

Interests (16):

"engineering" generally, "poly", blues and the arts generally, cardio issues & cancer survivor, electronics, hate capitalistic models of current peer-to-peer, inclusive atheist, jaz, music, nor a crypto bro, not a tech bro, punk, rock, scifi (mostly) for reading but other stuff, the usual ideals for a lefty nerd, too
