Capitalism is Evil
Jan. 2nd, 2025 11:25 amIn her books, Naomi Klein makes it abundantly clear that "unfettered" capitalism is evil. I would postulate that, while there is nothing inherently wring with sole traders and small business making value exchange, all capitalism at the multinational level is evil. You can't regulate it if it can take it's headquarters to a tinpot dictatorship and buy the loyalty of the dictator, or use a tiny portion of the profits made to corrupt the political process of the democracies it literally has fingers in the pies of. Production and value exchange is what humans have always done, Capitalism, at any level, is at best, represented by Star Trek's Ferenghi species - self serving, double crossing acquisotors for acquisitions sake. Capitalists are inherently undemocratic, self serving and eugenicist.
Here are but a few reasons why I hold this belief...
- Treatment of workers, resistance to wage indexing, union busting and bribing unions to policies that exchange barely living wage based on CPIs from years past in exchange for linger hours and assumptions of job security that are easily sidestepped
- Treatment of underdeveloped nations and the people there as cheap or slave labour. The prime example is western/northern willingness to do business with central and northern African cobalt mines worked by slaves. Literal slaves to fuel electric cars. Even communist China is moving away from Li-Ion cells to LiFePo tech to eliminate salvery from their products. Capitalists, lead by Elon the Twat, are happier to work people to death while denying climate change, yet selling electric cars.
- The military/industrial complexes of most developed nations and the multinationals. These MICs have fingers in all the death dealing, espionage and media manipulation technologies. Remember Cambridge Analytica? They don't exist anymore because they manipulated several democratic elections to suit their bastard paymasters. The technology used still does. CA were testing a prototype for defence contractors like Thales and others. There are no direct links but most weapons capitalists in the media weapons field have their versions of CA's tool that ensured targetted ads to divide the left and unify the right in any election they choose.
Need I say more?
There's a Buddhist addage, "When we fight something, we become like that which we fight."
As one who grew up under the shadow of the cold war, identifies as an "anarchic socialist" (as in non-heirarchical socialist, not a "bomb thrower") and tries to live buddhist practice, the Soviet Union were no friends of mine, Russian Communism was a branding exercise by right wing rat bastards with more in common with Hitler's National Socialism than anything Marx and Engels wrote about. However, the US, in making an enemy of the Soviet Union, shaped its capitalist principles in mirror image to them. Modern capitalism is fascistic and doctrinal, rather than consensual, co-operative and evidence based. They became the mirror of their enemy and this is now destroying the world.
Worse. Anybody who is seen as wanting a living wage is dismissed as a trouble maker. Anybody seeking a fair work week is an "anarchist" (of the bomb throwing kind) and we, the small people are ridiculed publicly by all the billionaires. Openly.
So, no. There is no reasonable level of global capital. It corrupts like a corpse in the sun. Community commerce is manageable on light capitalistic principles, but as money begets more and more suffixial zeroes, it begets power beyond the curtailment by nations, especially democracies and we are rapidly approaching a time where these greedy, extra-national dictators will declare literal war on all of is with a sub-10^6 net worth.
That is all.
